Yuvraj Singh returns to Punjab Ranji squad

Yuvraj Singh returns to Punjab Ranji squad: Veteran India all-rounder has been recalled to Punjab’s Ranji Trophy squad.

Veteran India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been recalled to Punjab’s Ranji Trophy team. The 36-year all-rounder had earlier expressed hesitancy at playing for Punjab in the tournament for it would mean compromising a youngster’s spot in the team.

Punjab will play their next match against Delhi in the capital tomorrow. In a sans Yuvraj squad, Punjab ended up conceding first-innings lead in both their matches – against Andhra and Madhya Pradesh.

In which appears to be a movie made by the selectors to improve team’s performance, it will also be Yuvraj’s last chance to qualify for perhaps a wild card entry into the Indian team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

In the seven matches that he played for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year, Yuvraj scored 264 runs at an average of 37.71, including one half-century.

Most recently, Yuvraj was seen being released by his IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab. In the eight matches which Yuvraj played for the Kings XI last season, he scored 65 runs at an average of 10.83 and a strike rate of 89.04. Such paltry numbers had it in them for his franchise to take the bold decision, something which eventually happened.

The southpaw had last played a First-class match more than a year ago against Vidarbha at Mohali. In a match which Vidarbha won by an innings and 117 runs, Yuvraj, who was also leading the side, scored 20 and 42.

Yuvraj had last played for India during India’s tour of West Indies last year. In three ODIs, Yuvraj had scored 57 runs at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 76.

The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
