So calm, so subtle and so effective; Dhoni’s ‘regime’ was one which gave millions of Indians the chance to witness their country reach the top in the sport that they adore. It gave us a chance to celebrate, a chance to revel in the beauty of the game, and a chance to call that victory ours.
Dhoni made us feel that ‘we’ as a nation lifted that elusive World Cup, something that we feel is his biggest achievement. He asked us to dream big, to carry that dream, to live it and to never give up until the dream comes to fruition.
Yuvraj Singh’s role in Dhoni’s cricketing career has been a very pivotal one. His contribution during the 2007 and 2011 World Cup triumphs are well documented. But most importantly he has stood by him as a friend, a mentor and a helping hand.
The Yuvi-Mahi partnership has to be credited for India’s domination in the limited overs format in the last 10 years.
The duo have gone through some turmoil in the last few years, with Yuvi’s father, Yograj Singh claiming that Dhoni tried to end Yuvi’s career. But such bonds can’t be dissolved by stray statements, no matter who makes them.
