Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has come to Cristiano Ronaldo’s rescue as the former player feels that the Portugese is not getting the respect that he deserves.
In what is quite easily his worst campaign to date, Ronaldo has come under a lot of scrutiny for his lack of goals and poor play overall prompting questions over his place in the starting eleven.
Ronaldo had a slow start to last season but then made up for it with an incredible 10 goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Zidane remembers this which is why he feels that people should give a little more respect to the legendary goal scorer.
“I think Cristiano deserves more respect because he is such a great player that when things don’t quite go his way everyone has something to say about him.”
“The club and the fans who love Cristiano Ronaldo know what he is doing. Just last season he had a phenomenal campaign. We are halfway through the season, we still have six months left of the season. Six months is a very long time for Cristiano.”
Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic also gave support to Ronaldo.
“For me he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or because he’s had an incredible year.”
“I’m very happy for him, the Ballon d’Or means a lot to him and to us although the most important thing is that we win together as a team.
“I see Cristiano train every day and he is doing fine. He’s going to score a lot of goals this season. Right now the ball doesn’t want to go in for him, but there’s a long way to go and he’s going to start scoring again.”
Ronaldo himself will know that this season has been a really poor one for him but he will also know that he has time to bounce back. Real themselves are having a really poor season which is why they are looking at their star man to inspire them.
With the clash against Barcelona coming up very soon, Ronaldo will have a fantastic opportunity to return to form. Make no mistake about it, Real Madrid really need him to come up with the goods.
