Defending champions India will attempt to defend their crown in the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. 12 international teams from across different Olympic geographies will play in the fortnight-long tournament.

The tournament had already been inaugurated by International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) President, Janardan Singh Gehlot. The captains of the 12 participating teams were also present at the event.
The teams are divided into two pools of six teams each, with the top two from each pool advancing to the semi-finals. India are grouped with South Korea, Australia, Bangladesh, Argentina and England, while Iran, USA, Japan, Poland, Thailand and Kenya are the teams that form the second pool.
“This is the watershed moment for the sport of Kabaddi globally. The International Kabaddi Federation has been working to develop Kabaddi as a competitive discipline. With 2016 Kabaddi World Cup, the sport is all set to breakthrough on a global stage,” IKF President, Gehlot, had earlier stated.
