3 Players which DD should release

3 Players which DD should release: Sportsrush presents before you three names which DD should release soon.

Delhi Daredevils have finished at the bottom of the points table four out of the last eight IPL (Indian Premier League) seasons. One of the three IPL teams (alongside Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab) to have played each season and yet not won the title even once, Daredevils have traveled a tough road since 2008.

In which will be another attempt to build strategies for the 12th consecutive year in a bid to force the much desired result, the franchise would be looking to release some of its players ahead of the reported deadline of November 15.

If reports doing the rounds are to be believed, the IPL auction ahead of the next season of the tournament will take place on December 16 in Goa. It will be the first time in the history that the auction will not happen in Bengaluru.

Daredevils would be looking forward for the auction for it will give them another chance of bringing on board the best bunch of players for the next season. Below are three names which DD would be wanting to release:

Mohammad Shami

In the four matches that Shami played for DD in the last season, he picked up three wickets at an average of 48, an economy rate of 10.40 and a strike rate of 27.66. In the 32 matches that he has played for the franchise since 2014, Shami has accounted for 20 wickets at an average of 50 and an economy rate of 9.17.

Having played a handful of limited-overs matches for India since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Shami hasn’t been the bowler that he once was in this format. Releasing the 28-year old from their squad will hand over INR 3 crores to the franchise which can be spent wisely to buy his replacement.

Daniel Christian

In the four matches that Christian played for Daredevils last season, he scored 26 runs at an average of 13 and a strike rate of 78.78. With the ball in hand, he dismissed four batsmen at an average of 25.25, an economy rate of 8.53 and a strike rate of 17.75.

Few would argue that Christian lead from the front in the Vitality Blast T20 earlier this year, scoring 415 runs in 15 matches at an average of 41.50, a strike rate of 172.91 and a best of 113*. Agreed. In the same tournament, Christian dismissed 10 batsmen at an average of 35.40 and an economy rate of 10.40.

If Daredevils are seeing Christian as a bowling all-rounder, these numbers are highly unlikely to impress them.

Naman Ojha

In the lone match that Naman Ojha played for the Daredevils last season, he scored 1 (4). The 35-year old wicket-keeper batsman has played 46 matches in the last four IPL seasons, scoring 353 runs at a meagre average and strike rate of 14.12 and 107.62 respectively.

In the last three season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ojha has played 20 matches, scoring 440 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 107.57. His form just doesn’t have it in it to convince anyone regarding him being given a place in a T20 tournament, especially one of the stature of the IPL.
