Team India new coach: Mike Hesson applies for Indian Cricket Team’s head coach, says reports
Team India new coach: Mike Hesson joins the list of applicants for the nomination of Indian Cricket team’s head coach as per reports
Following the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to follow a proper recruitment process, rather than direct appointment of support staff, there seem to be several interested candidates especially for the post of India’s head coach.
The BCCI had invited fresh applications for all the posts (including the team’s manager), with the present head coach, Ravi Shastri to also go through the recruitment process, despite being handed a 45-day extension for the West Indies tour.
There have been reports of quite a few applications including the ones from former Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardena and Tom Moody- who was also recently released by his IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their coach.
Now, as per the recent reports former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson is also set to apply for the role of the Indian cricket team’s head coach.
Hesson coached New Zealand from 2012- 2018
Mike Hesson was the coach of the Kiwi men’s National side from the year 2012-2018. He had led New Zealand to the finals of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where they eventually bowed down against Australia.
“Hesson is very much interested in applying for the head coach’s position,” a source was quoted saying to CricketNext.
Soon after Hesson stepped down as the coach of the New Zealand side, the 44-year-old was immediately roped in by the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab as their head coach for the twelfth season of the marquee league in 2019.

“He has spent a couple of months in India already working with Kings XI in IPL as well as doing television work with the hosts’ broadcasters. He’ll love to work with a high-profile team like India after a highly successful stint with New Zealand,” the source added.
However, this means that Hesson will need to provide an affidavit to clear him from potential ‘conflict of interest’.
