Gautam Gambhir slams Bishan Singh Bedi: Former India opening batsman shared an old letter where Bedi speaks against Saini’s selection.

Delhi and Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Navdeep Saini had made his international debut yesterday during the first T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of West Indies at Lauderhill.

Brought into the attack as the first change bowler, Saini expressed one and all with his pace. The right-arm fast bowler registered bowling figures of 4-1-17-3 to win the Man of the Match award on debut. Having dismissed Nicholas Pooran (20), Shimron Hetmyer (0) and Kieron Pollard (49), Saini sent back the main batsmen in the opposition batting lineup.

Congratulating Saini for his debut, former India opening batsman and Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir congratulated the rookie bowler for his performance but ended up criticizing former India cricketers in Bishan Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan.

Following Gambhir’s tweet, Bedi clarified that he has never said anything negative about Saini in the media. The 72-year old also credited Saini for making his international debut last night.

However, Gambhir took to his Twitter account once again to share a letter signed by Bedi, who was the President of the NCT (National Capital Territory) Cricket Association back in the day. Addressed to the then DDCA (Delhi & Districts Cricket Association) President Arun Jaitley, Bedi had written about not including Saini because of him belonging to Karnal (Haryana) and never having played in Delhi.

“@BishanBedi talking about ‘stooping to conquer’, man who was pushing his undeserving son for selection or @ChetanChauhanCr bent on getting his nephew in DDCA team. Shame. Also reproducing Bedi’s comments on Navdeep in a protest letter of 2013,” read Gambhir tweet with the attached letter.
