Josh Hazlewood vs Joe Root: Watch Australian pacer passes massive statement on ‘personal battle’ with English captain
Josh Hazlewood vs Joe Root: The Australian fast bowler has dismissed the English captain twice in four innings in this series.
Australia captain Tim Paine had admitted to him not being an astute reader of the DRS after losing the third 2019 Ashes Test against England at Headingley. Had Australia used their reviews better, the result of the match might have been different.
“We’re trying our best to come up with a system that’s better. And we can, I suppose, gather information on what different people are seeing on the field at the time and in that 15 seconds try to make a better decision than what we have been doing, but it’s a little bit of trial and error,” Paine was quoted as saying to Melbourne radio station SEN.
Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood also believes that there’s a room for improvement as far as DRS in concerned. In a recent interaction with the reporters, Hazlewood laid emphasis on “not getting carried away” with the moment before taking a decision.
“I think the skipper and a few other people have talked about [it]. Got a few days in Manchester [test] and I’m sure will nut something out and get a plan together because there room for improvement, that’s for sure. I think with not getting carried away with the moment in the game,” Hazlewood said.

Having missed the first Test at Edgbaston, Hazlewood has picked 12 wickets in two matches at an average of 18, an economy rate of 2.73 and a strike rate of 39.4. The 28-year old fast bowler’s battle with England captain Joe Root has been worth watching.
Being asked about the same, Hazlewood didn’t deny the absence of a “personal battle”. The right-arm pacer further opined about Root being vital to the hosts’ cause in the remaining matches. “Sometimes the best players bring the best out of you. I certainly feel in the game early against him, that’s for sure.
“I think he’s obviously key for them [being the captain]. Best batter in their team. If we keep getting him cheaply, puts pressure on rest of their order. It is nice to get that little battle. He got a few runs in the second innings [at Headingley] which is good for him,” Hazlewood added.
