Watch: Steve Smith slashes at a ball and falls to bring his 8th consecutive 50 in the Ashes
Watch: Steve Smith slashes at a ball and falls to bring his 8th consecutive 50 in the Ashes. The former Australian skipper continues his rich vein of form against England.
Australia and England share a rivalry that has lasted longer than many countries have even existed. The Ashes, the trophy they compete for, is a sign of that everlasting rivalry between the teams. One that pits Australia and England’s pride against one another.

Most people would crumble under such pressure. However, most people are not Steve Smith. The former Australian captain seems to be on another level when playing for his country against Englamd. Just a few months after returning back from his year long ban, Smith is back at his elements and is already punishing the English bowlers.
Steve Smith scored consecutive centuries in the first match against England and followed it by scoring 92 in the second before he was substituted by Marnus Lambuschagne in the second innings following a brutal bouncer from Jofra Archer.
The Australian missed the third test but overtook Virat Kohli in the test rankings by a solitary point. Within just 3 innings Steve Smith reclaimed his number one ranking. Many would have thought that missing the 3rd test would put an end to the momentum Smith was riding on. However, that hasn’t been the case as he scored another half century today and it came by in the oddest of ways.

Steve Smith raced to another half century and he did so in just 81 balls. The ball pitched outside off stump and Smith chased the ball. He reached it with a slash and the ball flew to the boundary while Smith lay on the ground after he fell from the attempt.
This is Steve Smith’s 8th consecutive 50+ score in the Premier League. He has now bettered his own record of 7. No other player has scored more than 6 so far. If England want to win the series, they will have to figure a way to keep the batsmen quiet and soon too.
