Pakistan sloppy fielding vs Sri Lanka: The Pakistani fielders ended up leaking four runs on the back of a below par effort on the field.

During the third ODI of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan in Karachi, as many as three Pakistani fielders committed errors to give four overthrow runs to Sri Lanka opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 19th over when Gunathilaka flicked a Shadab Khan delivery towards the square leg fielder for a single. Despite the batsmen seeming to easily complete the single, the square leg fielder rushed a wayward throw out of Pakistan captain and wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed’s reach.

Apart from Ahmed, the throw also took the backward point fielder by surprise. With him not anticipating a throw towards his wrong direction, he stood no chance at all to stop the ball.

Fast bowler Usman Shinwati, who was fielding at sweeper cover, was the next man in line to stop the ball. With him fielding at the boundary, he had the opportunity to prevent the ball from entering the boundary. However, a aloppy effort at the boundary saw the ball going between Shinwari’s legs to the boundary.

After Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimanne won the toss and chose to bat, the visitors posted an impressive 297/9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Having scored 133 (134) with the help of 16 fours and a six, Gunathilaka’s second ODI century powered Sri Lanka to score a competitive total.

Led by an 123-run opening partnership between Fakhar Zaman (76) and Abid Ali (74), all Pakistani batsmen contributed handsomely to seal the chase in the penultimate over. Other than the opening pair, middle-order batsman Haris Sohail also scored 56 (50) with the help of three fours and a six.
