Adam Gilchrist names his T20 World Cup 2020 semi-final contenders. The ICC World T20 will commence from October 18 next year.

The ICC World T20 is scheduled to be held in Australia next year. This will be the first T20 World Cup to be held in the southern hemisphere and promises to be an exciting affair. The format of the sport is such that any team could end up being victors on any given day.

This is exactly the reason why legendary Australian Wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist refused to name the outright favourite to win the tournament. However, he did not shy in naming the four teams that could make it to the semi-finals.

“Probably they (India) will be featuring in semi-finals and the finals. I can’t predict who is going to win but I suspect that the usual suspects like India, England, Australia and New Zealand will probably make the long way, semi-finals of course,” Gilchrist was quoted as saying by PTI.

Interestingly, Gilchrist did not fancy either of Pakistan, the number one ranked side in the world, or West Indies, the defending champion to win the match. He did admit though, that the format makes it hard to make any predictions and every team had a chance to bag the tournament.

“Pakistan are number one ranked team in the format, so you cannot rule them out. But T20 cricket is a bit of lottery. So it is hard to predict the winner until the final runs are scored or wickets are taken,” he said.

Australia vs India Day-Night Test Match?

Gilchrist also revealed that he had grown to become a supporter of day-Night tests. He also expressed hope that India and Australia would play a Day-Night test when India tour Australia next year.

“They would be here next summer after the T20 World Cup. I expect there will be a Day/Night Test there. I haven’t heard from Cricket Australia but I expect there would be one,” Glichrist said on the sidelines of an event.

The Legendary keeper added, “I was a reluctant starter of Day/night Tests but now I can totally see the positive outcomes that is going to help Test cricket stay relevant.”

Cricket Australia had proposed India to play a Day-Night test match last year. However, the BCCI turned down the offer. The ICC rules state that a home nation can only host a Day-Night test in agreement with the visiting board.

Recent developments in Indian Cricket have however, seen India ready to host a Day-Night test themselves. India will play Bangladesh under lights at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 22^nd. This is certainly encouraging signs for those who want to see India and Australia play a Day-Night test.
