WATCH: Puneet Bisht tries to emulate MS Dhoni; commits hilarious blunder in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20
Puneet Bisht tries to emulate MS Dhoni: Meghlaya’s wicket-keeper missed a simple run-out to dismiss Madhya Pradesh batsman.
During a Group D match of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy between Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh in Mumbai, Meghalaya wicket-keeper Puneet Bisht tried to emulate legendary Indian wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
However, his attempt to back-hand a throw to the stumps saw him missing the wickets and subsequently a simple run-out to dismiss Madhya Pradesh batsman Rajat Patidar.
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 17th over when Patidar cut a Sanjay Yadav delivery to point. A massive miscommunication between the batsmen saw both of them standing in between the pitch. Had Bisht collected the ball in an orthodox manner, he still would have been able to dismiss Patidar at the striker’s end.
After Madhya Pradesh captain Naman Ojha won the toss and chose to bat, his team posted a handsome 244/4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
It was Ojha (56) himself alongside with opening partner Ashutosh Sharma (60) who shared a quickfire 114-run opening partnership to lay foundation for a match-winning total. Apart from the opening batsmen, Patidar scored 68* (29) with the help of five fours and five sixes to power Madhya Pradesh’s innings.
With bowling figures of 2-0-16-1, Amiangshu Sen was the pick of the bowlers for Meghalaya. At the time of writing this article, Meghalaya have scored 114/5 in 14 overs and need a daunting 131 runs in the next six overs to win the match.

In the four matches that Madhya Pradesh have played so far, they have won two and lost one. While Madhya Pradesh are at No. 4 at the points table, Meghalaya are reeling at No. 7 with a lone victory from four matches.
