WATCH: Tom Banton takes on Arjun Nair; hits five consecutive sixes in BBL 2019-20
Tom Banton takes on Arjun Nair: Heat’s opening batsman went all guns blazing from the word go at the Showground Stadium.
During the 21st match of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat in Sydney, Brisbane Heat opening batsman Tom Banton registered his sixth T20 half-century to give a much-needed push-start to his team in an eight-over encounter.
Banton shared a 90-run opening partnership alongside captain Chris Lynn as he dominated the senior batsman for most part of the partnership.
The highlight of Banton’s innings came in the fourth over of Heat’s innings when he hit Thunder spinner Arjun Nair for five consecutive sixes.
After missing the first delivery, Banton took on Nair as he hit him over long-on for the first six. The next delivery saw Sydney pacer Brendan Doggett dropping a tough catch at the boundary. With Doggett not even preventing the ball from not going to the boundary, it was counted as Banton’s fourth six of the innings.
The right-hand batsman targeted the leg-side boundary on the next two deliveries as well to up the agony on Nair. It was on the final delivery of the over when Banton hit yet another six to score the second-fastest half-century in the Big Bash League.
After Lynn won the toss and elected to bat, his team scored a formidable 119/4 in their allotted quota of eight overs. Having scored 56 (19) with the help of two fours and seven sixes, Banton was easily Heat’s best batsman tonight.
