Baba Aparajith grabs magnificent one-handed catch: Tamil Nadu’s captain put on display an inspiring effort to dismiss his counterpart.
During a league match of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Tamil Nadu and Mumbai in Chennai, Tamil Nadu captain Baba Aparajith put on display an inspiring fielding effort to dismiss his counterpart in Aditya Tare.
It all happened on the first delivery of the 132nd over when Tare’s attempt of late-cutting a delivery from Tamil Nadu seamer T Natrajan saw him hitting the ball towards the right of Aparajith at first slip.
In what was a sharp chance, Aparajith made sure that he didn’t let the opportunity go as he grabbed a magnificent one-handed catch to hand Natrajan his second wicket.
Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 49th over, Tare scored his ninth First-class century to provide a rescue act. With Mumbai losing half their side on 129, Tare being part of a couple of significant partnerships saw them scoring 488 in 148.4 overs.
Having won the toss and chosen to bat, the 32-year old player justified his decision by scoring 154 (253) with the help of 19 fours and two sixes.
Apart from Tare, Mumbai spinners in Shams Mulani (87) and Shashank Attarde’s (58) individual half-centuries played a vital role in Mumbai giving a tough time to the hosts after losing early wickets on Day 1.

More than a decent crowd at #Chepauk today. There were a lot more people till around tea time. I hope #Tamilnadu give the crowd something to cheer about in what has been a disappointing season so far #TNvMUM #RanjiTrophy pic.twitter.com/EqCcu6ak22
