WATCH: Sam Fanning elbows Akash Singh in U19 World Cup quarter-final; gets two demerit points
Sam Fanning elbows Akash Singh: The Australian opening batsman was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.
During the first quarter-final of the ongoing ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup between India U-19 and Australia U-19 in Potchefstroom, Australia opening batsman Sam Fanning was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for elbowing India pacer Akash Singh.
It all happened on first delivery of the 31st over when Fanning played an Akash delivery towards point to run for a single. In the process of completing the run, Fanning was seen elbowing the bowler on purpose which invited him two demerit points from the International Cricket Council.
Not responding to the batsman, Akash was immediately seen signaling to the umpire with respect to the unacceptable behaviour from the Australian player.

“The act was deemed as inappropriate and the batsman was found to have violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘inappropriate physical contact with another player during an international match’.
“Level 1 breach of such an event carries a penalty of an official reprimand and a penalty of one or two demerit points,” the ICC said in a statement.
Having played a lone hand in a 234-run chase by scoring 75 (127), Fanning accepted the sanction by match referee Graeme Labrooy.
As far as the outcome of the match is concerned, India bundled out the opposition for 159 in 43.3 overs to register a 74-run victory. While Akash Singh dismissed three opposition batsmen, pacer Kartik Tyagi was the pick of the Indian bowlers with bowling figures of 8-0-24-4.
