Aryan Lakra’s comical run-out: The United Arab Emirates’ captain was involved in a massive mix-up while running between the wickets.

During the 13th place playoff of the ongoing ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup between UAE and Canada in Potchefstroom, UAE captain Aryan Lakra was at the receiving end of a massive miscommunication with his opening partner Vriitya Aravind.

It all happened on the first delivery of the second over when Lakra guided a delivery from Canada seamer Muhammad Kamal towards the point region. Initially deciding to run the single, something urged the southpaw to refuse the same despite Aravind showing interest.

The mix-up eventually saw both the batsmen standing together at the striker’s end. With Aravind reaching the striker’s end before Lakra, the latter had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.

What added to the comical element regarding the dismissal was the Canadian fielders almost handing a reprieve to the batsman at the non-striker’s end. After the point fielder missed the stumps at the striker’s end, the fielder backing up threw the ball to the other end only to see the bowler not collecting it completely.

It was the mid-off fielder who eventually collected the ball and uprooted the stump to dismiss Lakra for 1 (3). After Canada captain Ashton Deosammy won the toss and chose to field, making early inroads in such a manner would be delightful for them.

Continuous fall of wickets has seen UAE losing half their side by the 22nd over. With Alishan Sharafu and Osama Hassan batting in the middle, UAE would be hoping for them to register a rescue act.
