WATCH: Virat Kohli foxed by Ish Sodhi’s googly in Hamilton ODI
Virat Kohli foxed by Ish Sodhi’s googly: The Indian captain failed to read a wrong ‘un from the opposition spinner.
During the first ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Hamiton, India captain Virat Kohli scored his 58th ODI half-century to build a solid 102-run partnership for the third wicket alongside batsman Shreyas Iyer.
Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the ninth over, Kohli witnessed the dismissal of Mayank Agarwal (32) in the same over. With India losing two wickets in as many overs, Kohli took the onus on himself to keep the scoreboard ticking which allowed Iyer time to get his eye in.
It was on the first delivery of the 11th over when Kohli pulled a delivery from Tim Southee to register his first boundary of the match.
Having hit a boundary off New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham in the 14th over, Kohli primarily laid emphasis on taking the singles and doubles in the middle overs.
On the second delivery of the 28th over, Kohli ran a single off New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner to cross the 50-run mark for the 101st time in his ODI career.
While many expected Kohli to reach the three-figure mark, it wasn’t to be Sodhi deceived him with a googly in the following over. Having missed the delivery altogether, Kohli was seen rarely getting bowled in such a fashion. The Indian skipper ended up scoring 51 (63) with the help of six fours.
