KKR’s Pravin Tambe ineligible to play IPL 2020: The 48-year old spinner has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League.

Spinner Pravin Tambe, who was bought by Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2020, has been declared “ineligible” to play the imminent season.

Tambe, 48, would have gained a significant lead in the list of oldest players to have played in the history of Indian Premier League but that won’t happen now.

The leg-spinner taking part in the recently concluded T10 League in Sharjah has worked against him. With him violating BCCI’s policy of a player taking part in an overseas T20/T10 league without officially announcing his retirement, he will have no other option than to miss the IPL 2020.

In an interview with The Indian Express, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel opened up on why Tambe can’t be allowed to play in IPL 2020. Patel also differentiated between the rules for allowing players across formats in overseas league.

“He [Pravin Tambe] won’t be allowed to play IPL. He won’t be allowed otherwise we have to allow everyone. The board only allow players to play in one-day, three-day, four-day and county cricket and each player has to seek BCCI and respective state association’s no-objection certificate,” Patel was quoted as saying.

Having picked eight wickets in four matches at an average of 8.25, an economy rate of 9.20 and a strike rate of 5.3 for Sindhis, Tambe finished the T10 league as its sixth-highest wicket-taker.

In four seasons (2013-2016) of the Indian Premier League, Tambe dismissed 28 batsmen in 33 matches at an average of 30.46, an economy rate of 7.75 and a strike rate of 23.57. Having made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, Tambe went on to play for Gujarat Lions and SunRisers Hyderabad in the following seasons.

It is worth mentioning that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and fast bowler Manpreet Singh Gony played in the Global T20 Canada last year. However, both the players doing the same after announcing their international retirement wasn’t a concern.

While another veteran spinner in Harbhajan Singh had expressed interest in playing The Hundred this year, he is supposed to have revoked his name to not go against the BCCI’s policy.
