WATCH: KL Rahul denied review after getting out to Ishan Porel in Bengal vs Karnataka Ranji semi-final
KL Rahul denied review: Karnataka’s opening batsman was involved in a strange decision regarding the DRS in the Ranji Trophy.
During the third day of the second semi-final of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Bengal and Karnataka in Kolkata, Karnataka opening batsman Lokesh Rahul became a victim of limited DRS in the tournament.
The strange incident happened on the second delivery of Karnataka’s second innings when Rahul was found wanting against Bengal seamer Ishan Porel’s incoming delivery.
Rahul’s attempt to leave the delivery saw him getting hit on the pad in front of the stumps. Sensing a wicket-taking opportunity, the hosts appealed in unison to see umpire Yeshwant Barde raise his finger.
Rahul, who was keen on taking the review with respect to the impact being outside the off-stump, wasn’t allowed the same as him opting for a review would have had no affect on the decision for he didn’t offer to play a shot.
It is worth mentioning that the semi-final stage of the Ranji Trophy has the provision of DRS but only in a restricted manner. With no ball tracking available, impact of the ball hitting him would have only worked had he attempted a shot.
After seen discussing about the same with the umpire, Rahul eventually walked back to the pavilion after scoring 0 (2). Chasing a 352-run target, the visitors needed their senior batsman to play a substantial innings.
Having scored 98/3 in 38 overs at Stumps, Karnataka still need 254 runs to win the match. Devdutt Paddikal and Manish Pandey, who will resume the innings tomorrow morning, will have to stitch a significant partnership to lay a foundation for the remaining batsmen.
