BCCI planning to conduct IPL 2020: The 13th season of the Indian Premier League is alluring all sorts of speculations at the moment.

The outbreak of a “pandemic” in the novel COVID-19 has put the 13th season of the Indian Premier League in doldrums. Originally slated to begin yesterday, the tournament has been delayed till April 15 and is one of the many cricket tournaments which have been affected by coronavirus.

While a BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) source recently opined regarding the first week of May being the deadline to start IPL 2020, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had opened up against giving a “concrete answer” due to no improvement in the situation.

Given the conundrum regarding the situation, fans are hearing a new development with every passing day. While another BCCI source spoke against conducting IPL 2020, news agency ANI reported in the morning that the cricket board is yet to take a decision on the cash-rich league.

Going by reports in Sportskeeda, cancellation of IPL 2020 is being thought of as a “distance dream”. “Cancellation [of IPL 2020] is a distant dream. The board is positive to stage IPL at some point later this year,” a team official was quoted as saying to Sportskeeda.

Iterating on the fact that IPL 2020 will be conducted during a later window this year, a source in vicinity of the BCCI spoke to Sportskeeda regarding the same.

“There could a truncated IPL before the World T20, and that too only if all is well,” the source was quoted as saying.

It is worth mentioning that the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 18 this year. With the Asia Cup also expected to be played before the World Cup, BCCI have a daunting task up their sleeve regarding conducting IPL 2020 in September-October.

Another major issue at conducting the tournament then would be the availability of foreign players for countries are unlikely to release players with a World Cup coming up.
