Toto Wolff leaving Mercedes, according to several reports
Toto Wolff rumoured to step down as the team principal of Mercedes before the start of the 2021 season with rifts behind the stage.
Toto Wolff, the current team principal of Mercedes AMG Petronas, could step down before the start of the 2021-2022 season, as reports claim.
According to Motorsport-total.com, Wolff will announce his resignation before the start of the season. However, he may continue as a team principal in 2020.
It has been alleged that his exit reports are fuelling as a rift between Wolff and Daimler is increasing. It has been rumoured that both don’t see an eye to eye.
Wolff recently hinted that he was staying with Mercedes for the short term but things may be worse than they appear. But Wolff will allegedly still remain as the team principal till the end of the season.
But his exit will have huge implications on Mercedes as Wolff had certain plans in place for the upcoming seasons which was evidently visible.
The most popular was the inclusion of George Russel and Esteban Ocon in the Mercedes to replace the current pair of Lewis Hamilton who is near retirement and Valteri Bottas.
But that might change under new team principal, and with Wolff going by next season, hamilton might decide his departure pretty sooner, considering the confidence he has in Wolff.
It has also been reported that Daimler is pushing for Sebastian Vettel to join the team in 2021, who recently announced his departure from Ferrari.
However, it has been claimed that Wolff may continue to operate in an advisory role of sorts, possibly with the supervisory board. Allegedly, Wolff is retaining his 30 percent stake in the team.
