Mashrafe Mortaza tests positive for COVID-19: The former Bangladeshi captain has reportedly tested for coronavirus.

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza has tested positive for COVID-19. According to a report in BDcictime, Mortaza is said to have developed coronavirus symptoms from the last 3-4 days.

However, it was only after undergoing a test on Friday that the report found the 36-year old player positive for the virus.

Mortaza, who is in Dhaka right now, is taking treatment at home whilst being in isolation. Having been elected as the Member of Parliament from Narail-2, Mortaza is said to be in stable condition. It is worth mentioning that Mortaza’s mother-in-law had also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

Mashrafe Mortaza tests positive for COVID-19

Another tribute in Dhaka Tribune also claims Mortaza to be out of any kind of danger. “[Mortaza] Mashrafe complained of fever on Thursday night. On Friday, his sample for COVID-19 test was collected and the result showed positive [today]. He is doing well at the moment and his family is also fine,” read the report in Dhaka Tribune.

Having last played for Bangladesh in March at home, Mortaza was replaced as ODI captain by opening batsman Tamim Iqbal. Mortaza, who first led Bangladesh in his solitary Test as captain in 2009, went on to lead them in 116 white-ball matches.

Much like many other high profile names in the cricketing fraternity, Mortaza also actively participated in helping COVID-19 workers during the testing times. Mortaza’s bracelet, which he wore during international matches for years, was auctioned at a price around $50,000 in May.

As far as the cricket fraternity is concerned, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, former batsman Taufeeq Umar, former first-class player Zafar Sarfaraz and former Scotland spinner Majid Haq are some illustrious names who have tested positive for COVID-19.

As recent as this morning, BCCI President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s elder brother Snehashish Ganguly’s wife and in-laws also tested positive for coronavirus.
