Racing Point Team Principal has his say on Sebastian Vettel’s transfer for 2021

Racing Point has hinted that they are happy with Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll, and would continue with them through 2021.

The 2020 F1 season has not even seen the green light, but transfer rumours have already begun. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel will be released after this season, with no team confirmed for 2021.

This has led to talks of Vettel going on a ‘sebbatical’, with former teammate Mark Webber advising the same. If he does, he is expected to return in 2021.

Vettel is to be replaced by Carlos Sainz Jr., who is currently at McLaren. Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo will replace the latter at McLaren. Ricciardo’s replacement at Renault is still being considered, with legends Fernando Alonso and Vettel in the fray.

Joining the transfer’s merry-go-round is Racing Point. The team, earlier known as Force India will be rebranded as Aston Martin next season.

This is due to significant investments from Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Racing Point. Lawrence is the father of current Racing Point driver Lance Stroll.

Lawrence’s involvement makes it difficult for Lance to make way for Sebastian.  He has anyway extended his contract with the team through the 2022 season.

Racing Point confirms Sergio Perez will stay

That leaves Mexican Sergio Perez with the risk of relinquishing his seat for Vettel. Racing Point’s Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer has come to the rescue of Perez. He has declared Perez is set to continue, along with Lance.

Szafnauer had this to say, according to Radio Canada Sports ‘It’s a crazy transfer season for 2021, while there isn’t even racing in 2020 yet. It is, of course, true that there are Grand Prix winners on the market for 2021 and now even champions with Sebastian Vettel, but we prefer to work with the current drivers. If we get a good car we can also win races and possibly become a champion.”

Sebastian Vettel’s name has been doing the round in various teams. Mercedes, Red Bull Racing, Renault and Alfa Romeo Racing are other teams being touted as his future destination.
