Andy Murray says he wants to enjoy his struggle

Andy Murray has been a little under the weather before the start of his French Open campaign, dealing with fever and cold. It has just been that kind of a year for Andy Murray, having struggled with injury, form and health concerns all along. He recently conceded that he hasn’t been motivated enough after getting the number 1 ranking, something that could bring him down in an instant.

Murray though has gone on record to say that he is recovering well and is in his best possible shape for the French Open.

“Monday and Tuesday didn’t feel great. I started to feel a bit sick. I feel much better just now. I’ve just got a cough now, but I was just a bit sick for a couple of days. I trained in London for several days and it was cold, so probably it was there. It’s been frustrating, obviously. But I feel okay now. I will be all good when the tournament starts.” said Murray in a press conference.

Murray’s win percentage this year has been 70.8%, the worst ever for a world number 1 since that fateful 99′ season for Pete Sampras.

Murray has been pretty upfront about his problems, and says that he is embracing this struggle in the best possible way, dealing with it head on, rather than shying away from it.

“I haven’t been doing well recently. It’s obviously been a struggle. The last few months have not been good. I need to accept that I’m struggling and then find a way to get through it. I will get through it,’ the Scot assured. ‘I’m sure of that. When that happens, I don’t know. Hopefully, it happens in a few days. Hopefully, at this event. If it doesn’t, maybe it happens during the grass. I need to enjoy my struggle a little bit just now and that will help me get through it quicker. The more frustrated you get, it doesn’t help. So I’ll try and get through it as quickly as I can.”

Murray will be up against Andrey Kuznetsov later today.
