Sergio Perez signals his exit while speaking on Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin rumours
Sergio Perez claims it’s obvious who will have to leave if Sebastian Vettel joins Aston Martin/ Racing Point in 2021, signals his departure.
Amidst the rising speculation of Sebastian Vettel joining Aston Martin (successor of Racing Point from 2021), the Mexican driver has clarified that he will be the one who will be leaving the team.
“I think [the choice] is obvious if someone has to go,” Perez said in an interview on Movistar+ F1. “I’m a dad, I wouldn’t kick my son out, but there’s not much I can say.”
The dig is surely at his teammate Lance Stroll, whose future in the team is assured as his father owns the team when he took over from Vijay Mally in 2018.
“There are many [rumours] around. From me, nothing – everything remains the same. I have a contract with the team.” he further said in the interview.
Where will Sergio Perez go?
As of now, nothing has been clarified by Perez, but he has confessed that there are few teams who have contacted him upon hearing the rumours of his exit from Racing Point.
However, the Sportsrush tried to predict which team will he join in 2021. Considering he receives a huge financial backing from Mexican company telecommunications giant Telmex, he is totally a lucrative prospect for any midfield team.
Furthermore, Perez also talked about his “release clause” which Racing Point has to trigger before the end of July in order to nullify rest two years of his contract to make way for Vettel.
“In all contracts, there are always clauses, it is a bit related to sponsorship. That can open that clause. But we’re working hard with all our sponsors so that this does not happen. I would not say that it depends on a single sponsor, it is more of an overall issue.” said Perez.
