Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin: German F1 Driver to sign deal with new team in next week's Belgian GP

Sebastian Vettel to Alpha Tauri can spoil move to Aston Martin in 2021, with the German racer strongly linked to latter since weeks.

Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin is expected to be a done deal.  And as per ESPN Mexico, August 2nd could be the date of the announcement.  

This will bring an end to the saga which has rumbled on since Ferrari announced Carlos Sainz will replace Vettel next season. Sainz will partner current Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, as they aim for a turnaround in fortunes.

Vettel has faced a lot of disappointments over the past few weeks. His former team Red Bull ruled out the possibility of a reunion. Renault, meanwhile to decided to do what Red Bull didn’t, bring back former hero Fernando Alonso. This after Vettel recently claimed he was in talks with the French outfit.

Sebastian Vettel to Alpha Tauri, Alfa Romeo or Aston Martin?

Aston Martin’s links with outbound Ferrari racer Vettel are ever rising. Vettel himself hinted it in a recent interview with Sky’s Martin Brundle. 

Now, it does look likely with Sergio Perez looking for alternatives should he make way for the German. And it would be a pleasant shock if Aston Martin promoter Lawrence Stroll asks his son Lance to sacrifice his seat instead.

Both Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez are being considered by Alfa Romeo and Haas as alternatives. It would be a major coup for either team and will give them renewed confidence.

But former driver Ralf Schumacher has thrown in a different team in the mix for Vettel – AlphaTauri. The German raced for AlphaTauri’s earlier avatar Toro Rosso in 25 Grands Prix in his formative years in F1.

He even claimed a shock victory there, before going on to win 4 world titles with sister team Red Bull. Ralf believes with Racing Point being allowed to take inspiration from Mercedes, Alpha Tauri could follow a similar model and give a competitive car to Vettel should he make the switch next season.

“Sebastian started there (at Toro Rosso). Franz Tost, like Helmut Marko, is a big fan of his, so I can see something starting there. (Like Racing Point) I can imagine Red Bull would take a different approach and give both teams similar cars.”
