England vs Pakistan 2020: Watch Azhar Ali survives against Chris Woakes despite ball hitting stumps in Southampton Test
Azhar Ali survives against Chris Woakes: The Pakistani batsman received a reprieve against the English all-rounder in the first session.
During the first day of the second Test of the ongoing Pakistan’s tour of England in Southampton, Pakistan captain Azhar Ali received a reprieve against England all-rounder Chris Woakes early on in his innings.
It all happened on the second delivery of the 12th over when Azhar Ali was hit on his pads by a Woakes delivery. The ball ended up rolling on the ground before eventually hitting the stumps. However, the bails not getting dislodged put an end to English players’ celebrations especially that of Woakes.
In what was an unlucky spell for Woakes, England opening batsman Rory Burns dropped a catch off his bowling in the next over that he bowled to give Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali his second chance of the innings.
Azhar Ali, who put on display a significant amount of patience, couldn’t convert his start as he ended up edging a James Anderson delivery to the slip cordon after scoring 20 (85).
Abid Ali, on the other hand, remains not-out and was joined by Pakistan vice-captain Babar Azam before rain stopped play at the Ageas Bowl. About to complete his half-century, Abid Ali would be wanting to play a similar role which his opening partner Shan Masood played in the first Test.
As far as the hosts are concerned, both the Pakistani wickets were taken by their veteran bowler in James Anderson. The English bowlers would be looking to take the optimum advantage of the favourable conditions to dismiss more opposition batsmen in whatever play happens today.

Woakes v Azhar. This could be interesting. Wobble seam and zooming in on the pads.
