MS Dhoni retirement news: The legendary Indian cricketer has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Former captain and veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has called time on his international career via an Instagram post.

Dhoni, 39, uploaded a 247-second video comprising of his images from a glorious 15-year career with an evergreen song titled ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shair Hoon’ from Yash Chopra’s ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ (1976) playing in the background.

Dhoni, who last played for India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, missed the West Indies tour last year due to his training for the parachute regiment of the Indian Army in Kashmir valley. Dhoni then made himself unavailable to miss all further series at the highest level.

Dhoni was subsequently in the news in January this year when his name wasn’t to be found in the list of annually contracted Indian players. Since his last international outing 403 days ago, there were plentiful speculations with respect to his international future.

It was also being reported on multiple occasions that a praiseworthy season of the Indian Premier League would see Dhoni back into the T20I squad. With two T20 World Cups coming up, experts and fans hadn’t given up on the hope of seeing the legendary player playing for India again.

However, as you would expect from someone of Dhoni’s nature, all it took was his first Instagram post in six months to end his international career in the most low-key manner.

Dhoni, who led India to T20 and ODI World Cup victories in 2007 and 2011 respectively, had faced severe criticism primarily for his low strike rate in his last two years as an international cricketer.

All in all, Dhoni would doubtlessly be remembered as arguably the best-ever wicket-keeper batsman the sport of cricket has ever produced.
