NBA Draft Prospects 2020: Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman headline the top 3 picks
LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman headline what is believed to be a rather underwhelming draft class. The Timberwolves, Warriors and Hornets have the top 3 picks.
The NBA Draft Lottery was conducted today. The results of the draw were good news for Timberwolves and Hornets fans, but the Knicks received a rough deal as they fell all the way to 8th. Let’s take a look at the 3 players who’re being touted as the top 3 picks of this draft class:
NBA Draft pick #1 – Anthony Edwards:
A one-and-done prospect from the Georgia Bulldogs program, Anthony Edwards is a 6’5″ shooting guard with crazy athleticism. The swingman’s scoring proficiency has drawn comparisons with the likes of Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo. Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game at an effective field goal percentage of 47.5% this past college season.
Edwards projects as a high-impact offensive player who can contribute to any team right from the bat. Questions, however, linger around his defensive instincts.

NBA Draft pick #2 – LaMelo Ball
New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball’s youngest brother LaMelo is an intriguing prospect. A 6’7″ point guard with experience of playing overseas in Lithuania and Australia, LaMelo has been a professional for almost 3 years now.
Ball has great passing ability and has the size and quickness to put up a lot of points in a hurry. Like Edwards, however, he needs to improve his defense by leaps and bounds. He has a tendency to exert low effort and switch off on that end of the floor.
NBA Draft pick #3 – James Wiseman
A 7’1″ center with impressive athletic abilities, James Wiseman projects as an elite rim runner who can anchor an NBA defense at his prime. The freshman was embroiled in a court case regarding payouts to his account by Memphis Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway and missed nearly his entire freshman year. But that hasn’t decreased his stock at all.
In only 3 appearances for the Memphis Tigers, Wiseman showed off enough of his two-way ceiling to make teams highly interested in him. The expectation is that a team like Golden State Warriors, who could use a big man, will be drafting him.
