F1 2020 Calendar : Team Bosses Wolff and Steiner not pleased with the triple-header races this season

F1 2020 Calendar: The hat-trick of triple-header races has not been taken well by Toto Wolff and Guenther Steiner.

The covid-19 pandemic delayed the start of the 2020 F1 season by a good five months. The traditional season-opening Australian Grand Prix was dropped, and in came in the double-header at the similar-sounding Austria in July. After the two races at Austria, the Hungarian GP was held the week after, without a gap. Similarly, after a week’s gap, the double-header at Silverstone was followed up by the Spanish GP.

Mercedes Boss speaks out on the triple-header

This grueling schedule has not impressed Toto Wolff one bit, as per Racer.com. He spoke for his senior management and the engineers, who have not taken a day off since the past three weeks. He calls it a struggle, and rightly so.

“I think for the drivers it’s probably a little bit easier because they can recover between the races. Having said that, it’s not easy for anybody. But for the racing team it’s particularly difficult because you can’t go home. You need to stay out, you’re not seeing your family for in excess of three weeks. This has happened two times in a row now.”

“I can tell you Monday morning we were all in the office and that three race weekends in a row, it takes its toll. I feel it in myself that you start to struggle.”

Haas Team Boss calls triple-headers unsustainable

Haas Team Boss Guenther Steiner echoed his sentiments, calling it an unsustainable model. He however clarified that these are special circumstances, and it not expected to be repeated next season. Steiner also expressed happiness that the season did start, and everyone can “keep on having a job.”

“I think it has been pretty hard, but this year has been special circumstances. I think everybody is still happy that we keep on racing this year with the pandemic going on and that we all keep on having a job.”

“In a normal year, this is not sustainable to have these races in triple-headers a week in between and then the next triple header a week in between and another triple-header. It’s just not sustainable because eventually, you will wear people out. But I think that is not the plan going into the future, so we just have to do it because we have to.”

The triple-header races will go for a hat-trick starting next week when Belgium host it, followed by a double-header at Italy – Monza and Mugello.
