Vitality Blast 2020: Max Holden inaugurates T20 Blast with maiden T20 hundred
Max Holden: The 22-year old player from Middlesex became only the fifth batsman to score a T20 century for them.
During a South Group match for the ongoing T20 Blast between Essex and Middlesex in Chelmsford, Middlesex opening batsman Max Holden kick-started the tournament with his maiden T20 hundred.
With rain affecting as many as six matches (out of seven) in the tournament last night, even Holden’s outstanding innings had to end in a no-result encounter.
Opening the batting with Steve Eskinazi (23), Holden played second-fiddle in a quickfire 23-run opening stand. However, once Eskinazi got out to Matthew Quinn, Holden took off from there to become the fifth batsman to score a T20 century for Middlesex.
The left-hand batsman’s knock was laced with boundaries all around the ground against all the opposition bowlers. It is worth mentioning that Holden reached the three-figure mark on only the last ball of the innings as his 102* (60) with the help of nine fours and three sixes powered Middlesex to 184/5 in 20 overs.
Playing only his eighth T20 match, Holden continued to better his numbers in the format with his 301 runs now having come at an average of 50.16 and a strike rate of 145.41.
With rain interfering in the innings break, Essex were required to chase a revised target of 156 in 16 overs. That being said, only nine deliveries were possible in the second over as inclement weather didn’t allow players to resume play at the County Ground.
