Richard Levi run-out vs Somerset: Northamptonshire’s opening batsman was dismissed in an unfortunate manner today.

During a Central Group match for the ongoing season of Vitality T20 Blast between Northamptonshire and Somerset in Northampton, Northamptonshire opening batsman Richard Levi had to walk back to the pavilion after an unfortunate run-out at the non-striker’s end.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the fourth over when Northamptonshire captain Josh Cobb hit a firm straight drive off Somerset fast bowler Craig Overton.

Overton, who was trying to stop the ball, couldn’t completely stop it but his excellent reflexes were good enough to see him touching the ball before it hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Levi, who had backed up too far, had no chance whatsoever to return back to the crease. As a result, the 32-year old batsman was dismissed after scoring 11 (9) including a couple of boundaries.

It was Somerset captain Tom Abell who won the toss and invited the hosts in to bat. After losing their opening batsmen in the powerplay, Northamptonshire thrived on wicket-keeper batsman Adam Rossington’s ninth T20 half-century.

Before getting out in the 14th over after scoring 51 (31) with the help of seven fours, Rossington shared an 81-run stand for the third wicket with Cobb.

While these are still early days in the tournament, Northamptonshire are at the top of the points table in their group with one victory in two matches. On the other hand, Somerset are reeling at the bottom with a solitary loss so far to their name.
