Renault team principal stops Esteban Ocon to stop his whining after Italian Grand Prix
Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul tells Esteban Ocon to keep silence after the French driver complains on the radio after the race.
Renault was expected to have a good performance at Monza this weekend, as the track gave suitable conditions to their car. But Renault performed a bit below the expectations, especially after their heroics in Spa.
Esteban Ocon, the young French driver had his own resentments over his result and opted to show his frustration on the team radio. In contrast, Renault’s management didn’t want to discuss on the radio and ordered Ocon to not speak of it.
But the French racer continued until Cyril Abiteboul stepped into the situation and strictly told Ocon to not speak a word further. Mark Slade: “OK Esteban, fantastic job, fantastic job. Well done my boy, 8th after starting 12th, it’s not bad at all. Daniel 6th. Again good points for the team. Well done, buddy. ”
Esteban Ocon: “Yeah, got it. I don’t agree, I think we completely missed this race. There was a huge opportunity… ”
MS: “Okay, please don’t say anything on the radio. Please don’t say anything. We’ll talk about it in the office, thank you. ”
EO: “No, we have to face up to it… ”MS: “Please! Don’t talk…” EO: “…reality…”
Cyril Abiteboul: “Esteban, this is not the place! ”
EO: “OK, got it. ”
Day of underdogs but not of Renault
Renault was probably being considered the third-best car on this track and still, they only managed to fetch P6 and P8. On the other hand, the unprecedented drama during the start of the race allowed lower rung cars to have a chance at glory.
And Pierre Gasly rightly took advantage as he won the Italian Grand Prix 2020. If Renault couldn’t bring some glory to the French, the other Frenchman in the paddock took the responsibility to do so.

Gasly is the first French national to win an F1 race since 1996. Making the victory even sweeter.
