‘We never want to lose in Mamba jerseys’: Anthony Davis pays tribute to Kobe Bryant after game-winner vs Nuggets
The Los Angeles Lakers had to rely on a buzzer beater from Anthony Davis to take Game 2. Davis expressed the sentiment that they didn’t wanna lose in their Mamba jerseys.
It was a strong first half performance from the Lakers today in the Mamba jerseys, as they went into the locker room with a 60-50 lead.
Their transition play seemed to be clicking, LeBron was having a good day from the field and they had stifled the Nuggets offense. Their own offense, however, ground to a halt in the second half as they finished with only 45 points in 24 minutes.
Anthony Davis on the Lakers not wanting to lose in the Mamba edition jerseys
In his post-game interview, Davis alluded to the impact of the Black Mamba on his life and those of his teammates. The greatest player to ever wear the purple and gold, Kobe Bryant passed away in a shocking helicopter crash this January. The Lakers honoured him with a Black Mamba edition jersey, released on ‘Mamba Day’ – 24th August.

AD paid his respects to the Black Mamba in the post-game interview. He remarked that the Lakers never want to lose in these special edition jerseys. The Lakers were heard cheering AD’s gamewinner on as a shot reminiscent of Kobe.
“You see we’re wearing the Mamba jerseys. And we don’t wanna lose in these jerseys, we don’t wanna lose at all. But they’re a hell of a team and they’re gonna keep fighting.”

With this W, the Lakers have gone 3-0 in the playoffs while wearing their Mamba edition jerseys. This includes one game each in the first round, Conference semis and Conference Finals.
Both of their previous wins were more of the blowout variety than close games of today’s sort. Davis would definitely not have been pleased with blowing comfortable leads all through the game.
