But due to the coronavirus, this year’s Grand Prix event got cancelled. But a report by Julianne Cerasoli claims that the event at the same track might never happen again, giving a huge blow to the calendar.
The report by the journalist informs that the speculation is based on the “tips” provided by the Liberty Media. Moreover, the Brazilian Grand Prix doesn’t have a contract in force and F1 prefers the Rio project, which is more financially lucrative.
However, the Rio project has not received approval from the authorities as it is amidst the environmental concerns. The report further states “Liberty made it clear to me with all the words that there will only be GP Brasil if it is commercially advantageous for them.
“The latest SP proposal that has been reported is $ 20 million a year and they have not left Europe for less than 30 million.”, making it an unattractive prospect,
Middle East entering into F1 2020 Calendar
The rising influence of middle-east nations in Formula 1 is adding the number of events into the region, as they have better financial prospects. With Aramco joining the list of global partners there are reports of race in Saudi Arabia by next year.
Meanwhile, a double-header race is already announced in Baharain, while the ultimate showdown in recent years happening in UAE. With other continents seeming less attractive, new alternatives in Middle-east might occur.
