Sharjah Cricket Stadium Ground Dimension: The ground size in Sharjah is being discussed widely due to the huge number of boundaries.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which holds the record for the most ODIs hosted by a cricket stadium, was once a home for ODI cricket. The late 80s and the whole 90s witnessed all teams traveling to Sharjah for various multi-team tournaments.

Despite multiple controversies heavily reducing the number of ODIs being played in Sharjah in the last two decades, the stadium was mostly used during Pakistan’s home matches in the last decade other than UAE’s international matches.

With the ongoing 13th season of the Indian Premier League being also played in the UAE, Sharjah is one of the three venues being used.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium Ground Dimension

At the time of writing this article, Sharjah is hosting its third IPL 2020 match. Abu Dhabi and Dubai, on the other hand, have hosted six and seven matches respectively.

Despite the aforementioned numbers, the most number of sixes have been hit in Sharjah. The last two matches at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium have witnessed scores of 216, 200, 223 and 226. As far as the number of sixes are concerned, Sharjah has witnessed a grand total of 62 sixes.

The ongoing 16th match of IPL 2020 between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders is also set to become another high-scoring encounter after Capitals scoring above 10 runs an over after being put in to bat first by Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik.

The manner and number in which boundaries are being scored in Sharjah has brought its small boundary size into limelight. While the pitch unequivocally favours the batsmen, the size of the ground further leads to mountainous run rates.

While the size of a cricket ground can vary from match to match and end to end, the square boundaries at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium are between 51-61 metre. Talking about the straight boundary, it is expected to be in vicinity of 70m.
