Red Bull duo Max Verstappen and Alex Albon reveal their choices to fill the vacant venue slot in 2021 F1 calendar
Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Alex Albon differ in their opinion on which race track should replace Vietnam in the 2021 F1 calendar.
The current F1 season saw Portimao and Imola make their debut, and Istanbul, Nurburgring, and Imola returning after a hiatus. When asked about his opinion on these tracks, Max Verstappen generally positive response to them. When asked to choose one which he would like to replace Vietnam in next season’s calendar, he chose the iconic Imola.
“Portimão was cool, I just hope we have a bit more grip if we would ever go back there. Imola was nice, I think the track was very old-school. Nürburgring I also enjoyed so there were a few which could replace countries that are on the calendar. Some corners go all the way to the gravel and if you go too wide, you are off. I would pick that one even though Mugello was nice as well. It is difficult to pick one, there is plenty to move out of the ones we have now.”
Unpopular opinion: I want Mugello in the F1 calendar every single year.

Alex Albon prefers Mugello over Imola
Max Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Alex had a differing view of the choice of track, though. Quite unsurprisingly, he chose the track where he won his first-ever F1 podium – Mugello. With so many good contenders available, it remains to be seen which track the F1 Commission settles down on to replace Vietnam.
“I would say Mugello because the actual racing was really good,” he said. “I found Imola a bit more difficult to overtake on whereas Mugello, we had some proper battles.”
