“No chance of leading Bangladesh”: Mushfiqur Rahim brushes aside captaincy murmurs despite leading Beximco Dhaka in Bangabandhu T20 Cup
Mushfiqur Rahim brushes aside captaincy murmurs: The veteran wicket-keeper batsman wants younger players to lead Bangladesh.
Former Bangladesh captain and veteran wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has brushed aside all murmurs of him once again wanting to captain his team at the highest level.
Rahim, 33, had played the BCB President’s Cup 2020 for Najmul XI under Najmul Hossain Shanto last month. However, him agreeing to lead Beximco Dhaka in the imminent Bangabandhu T20 Cup made way for speculations about his return to captaincy.

With the tournament all set to commence from November 24 with the first match to be played between Beximco and Minister Rajshahi, Rahim will lead a team comprising of national players such as Mohammad Naim, Sabbir Rahman, Shahadat Hossain, Nayeem Hasan and Rubel Hossain.
Mushfiqur Rahim brushes aside captaincy murmurs
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rahim laid emphasis on younger players deserving to lead Bangladesh for the overall good in the longer run of the national side. Having led Bangladesh in 34 Tests, 37 ODIs and 23 T20Is between 2011-2017, Rahim also revealed being uninterested to resume the captaincy role.
“I feel there is no chance of leading the national side. They [Bangladesh Cricket Board] feel that there are some young players and if they are given a chance [captaincy] in the future it can be beneficial for them. In the national team and in the other teams there are a lot of young players and since I’m not interested in leading the national team, I feel they should be given the chance.
“I think the more they [young players] take responsibility the better and it will help them to be more responsible. In this tournament [Bangabandhu T20], the franchise [corporate house] thinks that I am the best person to guide the team and that is why I have taken up captaincy,” Rahim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
In Mominul Haque (Test), Mahmudullah (T20I) and Tamim Iqbal (T20I), Bangladesh currently have three captains across as many formats at the highest level.
