Will Pucovski concussion injury update: The 22-year old Victorian batsman received a nasty blow on the helmet at the Drummoyne Oval.

Australia batsman Will Pucovski, who was expected to make his Test debut as David Warner’s replacement in the first Test against India beginning from December 17, has been ruled out of the second warm-up match against India A which will commence from December 11 in Sydney.

Pucovski, however, will remain with the Australia squad and will be included in the XI upon recovering completely.

Pucovski, 22, was batting in the second innings of the first warm-up match at the Drummoyne Oval today when a pinpoint bouncer from India A’s Kartik Tyagi hit him on the helmet.

Having given the impression of being confused between pulling and ducking under the short delivery, Pucovski was himself responsible for finding himself in an awkward position. The right-hand batsman, who immediately fell down on his knees, gave signs of recovery after receiving medical attention but still walked off the ground.

It was later reported that Pucovski was communicating well with his teammates in the dressing room and even left the venue on his own without the need of an ambulance.

“Will [Pucovski] experienced mild concussion symptoms but was able to leave the field unassisted. He was monitored in our medical room and was communicating freely with staff and teammates as well as family over the phone,” Cricket Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Orchard said in a statement.

With Warner unlikely of attaining full fitness before the pink-ball Test in Adelaide and now Pucovski under constant monitoring, Australia might chose to include a cover to open the batting alongside Joe Burns.

Opening batsman Marcus Harris, who had made his Test debut during India’s last tour of Australia and scored 35 (60) and 25* (42) in the recently concluded practice match, appears to be the front-runner to get included as a cover for Pucovski.

In three Sheffield Shield innings for Victoria this season, Harris’ 355 runs have come at an average of 118.33 including a double century against South Australia.
