'If he shows up that much overweight We are not competing': Tony Ferguson gives a straight up warning ahead of his match against Charles Oliveira at UFC 256

Tony Ferguson is committed to hitting the 155-pound mark at UFC 256 and claims he would not compete if his opponent for the event Charles Oliveira turns up overweight.

With just a handful of days left for the month’s marquee event to arrive, the event’s co-main feature and one of the leading contenders for the Lightweight title shot Tony Ferguson has issued a warning for his opponent to be Charles Oliveira.

Ferguson who is seemingly eager to get back in the ring has conveyed that he won’t compromise on a weight cut discrepancy. And indicates, he won’t compete at UFC 256 if Oliveira doesn’t hit the defined weight mark.
Through an Instagram post, El Cucuy presented his concerns in front of the MMA community.

Charles Oliveira doesn’t present the best record when it comes to weight cutting. Out of his 26 fights in UFC on 4 occasions the fighter was found ineligible on the weight scale.
Thus, Seemingly noting the same Ferguson highlighted that he won’t turn up for the fight if Oliveira fails to cut weight in the designated period and then reasons it as a deviation on account of a short-notice fight.

Debate On Weight Cut

The debate on the topic of weight cut remains ever rife. Some believe those who become a subject of this indiscipline should not be permitted to compete, while others suggest a less harsh penalty.
One of the premier voices of the game Jon Anik suggested last month that the fighter who defaults the process should be allowed to compete but the basic impetus needs to be stripped, i.e., the concerned fighter can only get a draw as the best result.
In the past, the Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has also voiced his opinion on the matter. He believes a heavy rise in the penalty, which already propels a fighter to forfeit a significant part of his/her fight purse in favor of his opponent, is what can bring the cases of default weight cut down.
