‘I think I have to take back my statement’: Kyrie Irving revises stance on Nets’ head coaching situation after playing under Steve Nash
In his first media appearance of the 2020-21 season, Kyrie Irving appeared to undo the damage on his image from the past two months.
Irving has been at the eye of several storms of late. It all started when he went on Kevin Durant’s podcast in early October. A couple of his statements from his talk with KD raised eyebrows all around.
For instance, he said KD was the first teammate he’s ever had who he could defer a gamewinning shot to. LeBron James took offense to this statement, and after a couple of subtle jabs at him, the King revealed what he thought of it on Richard Jefferson’s podcast.
The other very controversial statement Kyrie and KD made was regarding the Nets’ head coaching situation. Within just a month of their new head coach’s appointment, their statement about ‘not really having a head coach’ seemed like a vote of no confidence.
Kyrie Irving apologizes for statement regarding Nets head coach
Irving appeared determined to blow off all the negativity surrounding him in Brooklyn in his press conference. He first apologized for calling every media member a ‘pawn’. He then went on to go back on his words regarding Steve Nash.
Kyrie Irving says after being coached by Steve Nash for a few weeks: “I think I got to take back my comments from a few months ago.”
Irving is referring to saying on a podcast, “I don’t really see us having a head coach.”

Kendrick Perkins had a little something to say about it.

As disingenuous and fake as this appears, Irving is making it tougher on people to continue hating him. He has a history of making fickle-minded statements that he usually backtracks on. At this point, he’d seem like the harmless, eccentric conspiracy theorist of the NBA more than anything else.
