“The dominance of Mercedes and Lewis is bigger than the one we had at the time with Ferrari”- Jean Todt
“The dominance of Mercedes and Lewis is bigger than the one we had at the time with Ferrari”- Jean Todt concedes to Mercedes’ might.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s when Ferrari was brutally owning Formula 1 competitions, nobody expected that they will be witnessing the same level of dominance anytime soon.
Fast forward to next few years, Red Bull came near to match the statistical prowess of Mercedes, and a decade later to Ferrari’s last championship with Michael Schumacher, Mercedes started its dominance which is still going on.
After 7 years of consecutive Championship victories by Mercedes, Jean Todt, the pivotal man behind Ferrari’s success back then has now conceded that Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton are mightier than Schumacher’s Ferrari.
“The only thing we can compare is seven against seven. Otherwise, you know, on one side you have the very structured organised German team, with an extra-talented driver,” said Jean Todt as per the Motorsport.
“On the other side you had one Italian team with a different mentality, a different approach, which became well-structured, well-organised and also a great driver, Michael Schumacher.”
“I would say, and I feel, the supremacy, the dominance of Mercedes and Lewis is bigger than the one we had at the time, with Ferrari and Michael.”
“Credit to them, the car is very reliable, and apart from the race in Bahrain, which was missed by Lewis, for two years he did not miss to score points in a race, it’s absolutely outstanding.”
“It means [there is] reliability, and the driver is not doing mistakes, it is just a combination again.”
Lewis Hamilton set to outnumber Michael Schumacher
After securing the Drivers’ championship in 2020, Hamilton matched the individual tally of his predecessor at Mercedes. Going into 2021, the Briton is once again being considered as the favourite to go away with the championship.
That will give him eight Championship titles to his name, and the debate for the greatest of all time will further intensify.
