“Let’s go to New Orleans and make something of it”: What Brandon Ingram said to Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart after LeBron James, Lakers traded them for Anthony Davis
Brandon Ingram had the longest talktime he’s ever had in public on the JJ Redick podcast that was released yesterday.
Ingram is a teammate of Redick’s. Currently the Pelicans’ most reliable scorer, Ingram made the All Star team for the first time last year. Ingram signed a max extension on the back of his 2019-20 season. He shows a ton of promise to take over the league, given that he’s still only 23.
Brandon Ingram was a Lakers player for the first 3 seasons of his career. Drafted by the storied franchise with the no. 2 pick in 2016, Ingram joined D’Angelo Russell and Lonzo Ball as the players traded away to make room for max players.
There were rumors linking the Lakers to a trade with the Pelicans for Anthony Davis as soon as LeBron James signed with them. People knew instinctively that the team would go into a win-now mode. Although most Lakers fans are happy for the title, many still would have preferred keeping their homegrown talent.
Brandon Ingram talks about how he dealt with Anthony Davis trade
Ingram spoke about the whole trade scenario at length, detailing his experiences:
“So it was one morning I just woke and my agent had called me and said, ‘We think something’s going on and you may get traded in the next like 20 minutes’. I hung up the phone, and I just went and laid down. Five minutes later he called me back and he was like, ‘You just got traded to New Orleans.”
“Lonzo called me, I think Josh Hart called me and they were all positive, they were like ‘Let’s do it, Let’s go to New Orleans, and let’s make something out of it. So I was prepared for it. It wasn’t like, it wasn’t really new.”
The Lakers’ youngsters were all expecting to be dangled as trade bait. It must have come as the end of an ordeal to finally be rid of the endless speculation and attention from paparazzi.
