“Be warned LeBron James, I’ll shoot you”: Lakers star receives graphic death threat on Instagram from handle named ‘Witness Kevin Durant’
A burner account sent a detailed death threat to LeBron James through an Instagram post that has since been removed.
LeBron James was playing against the Memphis Grizzlies last night when this occurred. The Lakers managed to hold on and beat a debilitated Grizzlies team with no offense. James had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists on the night.
He also came in for some fire from Skip Bayless for trash talking one of the biggest chuckers in the league – Dillon Brooks. James went at Brooks with about a minute left in the game and the Lakers up by 3. He hit a fadeaway jumper in Brooks’ face, stared him down and called him ‘too small’.

The post in question had a picture of a gun and included a narration on how the anonymous user planned to assassinate LeBron. The user went pretty detailed with his narration, too, in a way that wouldn’t please a lot of people:
“On Thursday, February 19th, I will be going to a Nets vs Lakers game. I will sneak this gun showed in the picture into the arena and shoot @kingjames in the head during a timeout. You have been warned @kingjames.”

The poster came in for tons of backlash following this, and he posted an apology shortly after:
“I’d like to publicly apologize for threatening LeBron AS A JOKE. I’ve come to realize things like these aren’t jokes and can be taken very seriously. I have over 500 requests after going private because someone posted it on Twitter. Y’all can hate on me all y’all want but I truly apologize and if I could go back in time and think before posting something like that I would.”
Normally, an assassin wouldn’t reveal in detail what they plan to do with their victim on social media. But in this day and age, you never know for sure who really is off their rocker. It would be appropriate for the Lakers star to step up his security detail just in case.
