Roman Reigns vs Adam Pearce scheduled at Royal Rumble WWE Universal Championship

Roman Reigns vs Adam Pearce scheduled at Royal Rumble WWE Universal Championship following a Gauntlet match on SmackDown.

A gauntlet match was announced as the main event to close tonight’s episode of Friday night SmackDown. A shot at the Universal Championship was the dangling carrot set by WWE official Adam Pearce. This greatly upset Roman Reigns and he made sure there were consequences.

The reigning, defending, WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion’s advocate Paul Heyman pulled some strings to make sure that Pearce was a part of the match. Sami Zayn, Rey Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura, Baron Corbin and Daniel Bryan were the other participants.

The match started with Zayn cutting a promo about he was treated unfairly. He was joined by Rey Mysterio who quickly pinned him. Out came Nakamura. The King of Strong Style however, was a much more formidable foe. Nakamura forced Mysterio to tap out to an armbar.

Corbin managed to jump Nakamura but failed to win after getting hit with the Kinsasha. Bryan came out and the two put up the best match up of the gauntlet. However, Bryan came out short courtesy the Kinsasha. Pearce was the last hurdle to overcome.

Before he could even enter the ring however, Reigns and Jey Uso levelled Nakamuro. Jey then knocked Pearce out and dragged his lifeless body over Nakamura’s for the three count thus setting a title match between the Tribal Chief and the WWE official at Royal Rumble for the WWE Universal Championship.


Adam Pearce is a 5-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. In the WWE Universe however, he is merely a suit that is there to maintain order. It will be interesting to see how the WWE will book this match.
