“He has the potential to be a future champion”- Lewis Hamilton on his rumoured successor
“He has the potential to be a future champion”- Lewis Hamilton tips that George Russell is on the same track as former World Champions.
George Russell in the past two seasons despite being at the back of the grid has amassed admiration from the fans. After his performance with Mercedes at the Sakhir Grand Prix, the majority already want him to race in Mercedes.
Amidst, Lewis Hamilton’s reported strained contract talks, it has been speculated that Russell might be promoted for Mercedes in 2021 to replace the 7-time World champion.
However, Hamilton himself is in awe of his compatriot and claims that he will soon be a world champion, as he is on the track where other former World Champions once marched.
“What he’s been able to do is similar to if you look at Alonso, I think this year, it’s just been great how he’s handled everything and what he’s done with that car, to put it into Q2 quite often, and really delivering great results,” says Hamilton as per the GP Racing.
“I’m really impressed with his racecraft and how he’s growing, and I really think he is the future. Several drivers are the future of this sport, but he’s one of them, and I’m really excited to see his progression.
I do not doubt that he has the potential to be a future champion.” he concluded.
George Russell is the future of Mercedes.
There is no doubt that Toto Wolff has shown immense support for Russell over the past three years, and view a viable prospect for Mercedes in him.
Russell would have registered his first Grand Prix win at Bahrain if his team hadn’t made a blunder with the tyres. But, surely, the Briton is destined for a seat in the Brackley based team.
A two-season spell at Williams has definitely made him a multifold better performer.
