“He has probably learned to be a little more humble”- Jenson Button praises his former teammate Fernando Alonso ahead of Renault return.
It has been two years since Fernando Alonso last raced in Formula 1, and now he will be pairing up with Esteban Ocon while representing Alpine under the new leadership.
Jenson Button, who partnered with Alonso in McLaren feels that the Spaniard has learnt to be a little more humble in the recent years and a more educated Alonso will be seen.
“I think he is great. He has a real personality, and I think he has probably learned to be a little more humble in the last few years. I think he will see a powerful and educated Fernando Alonso,” said Button on Planet F1.
Button further praises Alonso’s fitness, as the latter is set to enter in his 40s this year and is ready to lock horns with the younger blood in the sport, while only Kimi Raikkonen eclipses his age.
“He is perfect for the sport, excellent for him, and it seems that he works hard to be in shape, which is great. He will need it because he is no longer a kid!” Added Button.
Alonso’s return good for F1
In the end, Button also feels that Alonso’s return is going to be good news for Renault, while Alonso brings in the experience, Ocon brings in the touch of youth, a well-found balance.
“It is also good for Renault, a team with which they have won two championships, to come back with them. Fernando has to fill the great void left by Daniel Ricciardo, who was very good and didn’t mind at all.
“It will be a lot of fun to watch. Daniel in McLaren with Lando but yes, it’s great to see Fernando back on the grid, “said Button concluded.
