“It was amazing to be in Arsenal”: Unai Emery Thanks Arsenal Supporters Despite Being Hounded Out Of The Club: The Spanish manager has appreciated his spell in charge of the Arsenal side
Mocked and jeered at by Arsenal’s players and supporters prior to his departure from the club, Unai Emery could have been excused for hitting out at the club. However, despite the misdemeanour meted out to him, the Spanish manager had only nice words about the club.
Speaking at length for the first time after being let go by Arsenal midway during the 2019-20 season, Emery said he was extremely grateful of his role as the Premier League side’s manager. Talking to football.london, Arteta thanked Arsenal supporters for the support they lent to him during his tenure.
Unai Emery Thanks Arsenal Supporters
“My message is that I’m grateful for my experience and above all my first year in Arsenal. I understand how football is, with the emotions and good results are needed,” Emery said.
“The second year we lost a little bit that and the club decided to change me but I can’t say anything negative to them because for my experience it was amazing to be in Arsenal.
“Now I’m using all my experiences in Villarreal and want to create my way here.
“The supporters supported me in that moment and the second year was more difficult but I understand totally.
“My message is thank you.”
Emery who joined Arsenal in 2018 spent a little less than two years at the helm of the club. After guiding Arsenal to the Europe League final in only his first season, things quickly turned sour for the manager after a horrendous run of results in his second season.
Waning form paired with a fall out with Arsenal’s squad meant it was only a matter of time before Emery was let go. The manager was said to have been chided and berated by Arsenal’s players with many mocking his appearance and accent.
Arsenal supporters did the manager no favour as well with the bunch quick to turn on him as the club failed to script together a set of meaningful results.
However, Emery has silenced his naysayers in some style by taking Villareal to a record unbeaten spree in the La Liga. In only his first four months as charge of the club’s manager, Emery has taken the La Liga outfit into fourth spot whilst Arsenal find themselves languishing in 11th spot in the Premier League.
