Harbhajan Singh released by Chennai Super Kings: The veteran Indian spinner won’t represent Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021.

It is nothing but an incomparable delight for fans of Indian cricket that a day after what has arguably been their best-ever Test match victory franchises of the biggest T20 league will announce the list of their retained players.

The fact that teams for the next season of the Indian Premier League are being discussed when the national team has only played a tour after the previous season is both surreal and hectic for the cricket administrators in the country.

While there hasn’t been an official update from any franchise with respect to their list of retained players, Chennai Super Kings have unintentionally become the first team to unveil one of their released players ahead of IPL 2021.

Harbhajan Singh released by Chennai Super Kings

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, who had missed the 13th season of the IPL in UAE due to personal reasons, took to social media platform Twitter to announce that his time with the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings has come to an end.

While the 40-year old spinner termed his two-year stint at CSK as a “great experience”, he thanked the franchise, management, staff and most importantly their loyal fans for their support.

Having joined Super Kings in IPL 2018, Harbhajan was part of a title-winning campaign in 2018 and played a vital role in them finishing as the runners-up the next year. In 24 T20s for Chennai, Harbhajan picked 23 wickets at an average of 25.30, an economy rate of 7.67 and a strike rate of 19.78.

With his last competitive match being the IPL 2019 final more than 20 months ago, it will be interesting to see if Harbhajan finds a buyer for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League.
