BBL 10: Jonathan Wells collides with Nathan McAndrew after getting hit on the helmet in Strikers vs Thunder match
Jonathan Wells collides with Nathan McAndrew: The batsman from Adelaide Strikers was involved in an unpleasant incident.
During the 53rd match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder in Adelaide, Adelaide Strikers batsman Jonathan Wells was involved in an unpleasant incident with Sydney Thunder fast bowler Nathan McAndrew.
It all happened on the third delivery of the eighth over when Wells unsuccessfully pulled a McAndrew delivery. Beaten by a pinpoint bouncer, Wells was hit on the helmet.
With the ball ricocheting after hitting the helmet, Wells and non-striker Jake Weatherald showed interest in running a single. Wells, who was initially ball-watching, went on to clash with McAndrew midway through the pitch.
Fortunately for the 32-year old player, he completed the runs and continued batting to build a 63-run partnership alongside Weatherald.
In what was a one-man effort after Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson won the toss and opted to field, Weatherald top-scored for Strikers powering them to 115/4 in 14 overs in a rain-curtailed match.
In what was his 12th BBL half-century, Weatherald played exceedingly well for his 80* (47) which comprised of eight fours and four sixes. McAndrew, on the other hand, was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-0-8-1.
